Chennai Super Kings (CSK) retained four players ahead of the IPL 2022 mega auctions. Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Ravindra Jadeja, and Ruturaj Gaikwad were among their Indian contingent, with Moeen Ali being the sole overseas retention for the 2022 Indian Premier League. Sam Curran, Suresh Raina, Faf Du Plessis were the notable omissions from the side.

Meanwhile, CSK CES Kasi Viswanathan has delivered a major update ahead of the IPL 2022 mega auctions. He said that they are looking to rope in Faf Du Plessis in the mega auctions. Faf was the second-highest run-scorer in the 2021 season of the tournament (633 runs in 16 matches) and played a key role in their title-winning season. He was also the highest run-getter for the CSK in the 2020 edition (449 runs in 13 matches).

Moeen Ali’s all-round abilities edged out chances of Du Plessis being retained. However, Kasi Viswanathan has not entirely ruled out the return of Faf.

We look forward to getting them back. For example, Faf has been a team man who has taken us to the finals of two important seasons. It will be our endeavor to go and try for him. But it’s not in our hands,” Viswanathan said in a video posted by the Chennai Super Kings.

Viswanathan also expects crowds to be back at the Chepauk for IPL 2022.

“Chennai has been a very lucky ground for us, we had a good home advantage. That is because of the support we get from the CSK fans who throng to the stadium. I hope that this year, we get the entire MA Chidambaram Stadium for our use,” said the CSK CEO.

Viswanathan said that Dhoni “controls the team,” and has remained the mainstay for the Super Kings.

IPL 2019: "MS Dhoni isn't going anywhere, he will return in yellow," says CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan

“Thala has been the mainstay of CSK. He has been a captain who has delivered for us. He gets the best out of the team every time he plays. As far as we are concerned, Thala plays a major role because he controls the team, and the team is benefitted by his experience. Nobody can doubt his skills as a captain,” he concluded.
