The Gujarat Titans (GT) thrashed Rajasthan Royals (RR) by seven wickets at the Narendra Modi Stadium to win their maiden IPL title. It was a superb win in their debut season in their first-ever appearance at home in front of over 1 lakh spectators.
Opting to bat first, Rajasthan Royals could only muster 130 runs in their 20 overs. The Titans bowled some excellent line and length with skipper Hardik Pandya returning with 3/17. Orange Cap winner Jos Buttler top-scored with 39 runs but he was far away from his best.
In reply, Shubman Gill batted till the end to see the team through. He and Hardik Pandya added 63 runs for the third wicket to set up the run chase before David Miller ran an onslaught. The Protean batter scored a quickfire 32 off 19 deliveries before Gill finished off the proceedings with a six.
Both the Orange and Purple cup winners belonged to the losing finalist’s RR. Jos Buttler finished with 863 runs while Yuzvendra Chahal took 27 wickets.
