Mumbai Indians’ (MI) youngster Dewald Brevis recalled his first meeting with legendary cricketer and the team’s icon Sachin Tendulkar. Brevis was picked by the franchise for a whopping INR 3 crores at the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 auctions.
Despite finishing the last place in the points table, the Mumbai Indians had a few positives from the tournament. The performance of youngsters like, Tilak Verma, Tim David, Dewald Brevis, etc was promising. Brevis had a decent season, scoring 61 runs in 7 matches at a strike rate of 142.48.
Playing against the Punjab Kings, he slammed Rahul Chahar for four sixes in a row, announcing himself on the big stage. In an interview with Cricket Fanatics, Dewald Brevis recalled the incident when he met Sachin Tendulkar for the first time.
“I was laying on the floor of the gym and suddenly Sachin sir appeared at the door. I didn’t know what to do and the first time I shook his hand, it was insane. Have idolized him and the small technical details he taught me were special. It was great to learn from legends like him and coach Mahela,” Brevis said.

My debut was a special memory – Dewald Brevis
The young South African cricketer is termed as ‘Baby AB’ by the fans, as his batting style matches that of AB De Villiers’. Brevis made a name for himself in the U19 World Cup earlier this year. He was the leading run-scorer in the tournament.
In the Indian Premier League, the youngster got an opportunity to play under the leadership of Rohit Sharma. Speaking about his experience with the team in the Indian Premier League, Brevis said,
“It was very special to meet Rohit, Ishan, and the whole team when I finished quarantine. Of course, my debut was a special memory, playing in front of so many people. The louder it gets, the higher the pressure gets and I love that. The pressure to perform for MI is good because it motivates you to get another trophy for the team.”
