Umesh Yadav has begun the Indian Premier League 2022 season on a flying note for the Kolkata Knight Riders. They are playing against the Chennai Super Kings in the opening clash of the fifteenth IPL edition at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
The Kolkata Knight Riders pacer struck twice in the powerplay, to push the Chennai Super Kings on the backfoot. He dismissed both the openers for 28 runs. Ruturaj Gaikwad got out for a duck in the first over of the match.
Umesh bowled a wide of off-stump delivery, which moved and bounced a bit, to take the edge of Ruturaj Gaikwad’s bat. Nitish Rana made no mistake, to send the batter back into the hut.
On the other hand, Devon Conway tried to dance down the wicket against Umesh but chipped it to the Kolkata Knight Riders skipper Shreyas Iyer. The Kiwi batter’s stay at the crease ended for just 3 runs off 8 balls. Ambati Rayudu walked out to bat at the crease after the fall of Conway’s wicket.

Earlier in the match, Shreyas Iyer won the toss and opted to bowl first on a batting paradise at the Wankhede. The right-hander decided to go in with three overseas players – Sam Billings, Andre Russell, and Sunil Narine.
“The track seems to be a belter and the dew will come in later and make it better. We are going in with three overseas players – Billings, Narine and Russell. Three of us got caps today. Myself, Billings and Rahane,” said the KKR skipper.
Meanwhile, the Chennai Super Kings are in deep trouble having lost four wickets for just 52 runs on the board. Skipper Ravindra Jadeja is at the crease with Shivam Dube.
