Mumbai Indians registered their first win of IPL 2023 with a thrilling last-ball win over Delhi Capitals played at Arun Jaitley Stadium, New Delhi on 11 April.

MI captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and decided to field first. Despite David Warner’s and Axar Patel’s quickfire half-century, Delhi Capitals managed 172. Jason Behrendroff changed the momentum with 3 wickets and 1 run out in the 19th over.

Rohit Sharma led from the front and attacked DC bowlers right from the word go. The match went right down the wire as Green and Tim David helped took 2 runs off the final delivery to help MI win the match by 6 wickets.

  1. Rohit Sharma broke Mayank Agarwal’s record

Rohit Sharma scored his first half-century since IPL 2021. He looked in great touch right from the word go putting enough pressure on Delhi Capitals bowlers. His batting kept Mumbai Indians ahead and showed his class with attacking strokes.

He was eventually dismissed for 65 off 45 deliveries with 6 boundaries and 4 sixes. Rohit Sharma scored his last IPL half-century against Punjab Kings. Rohit broke the record of 24 innings without 50 plus score in IPL. He broke the record of Mayank Agarwal for the longest streak without 50+ scores by an opener in IPL.

Rohit Sharma was named the player of the match for his captain’s knock. Mayank Agarwal went 21 innings without 50+score between 2011 and 2015.

  1. Piyush Chawla broke R Ashwin’s record

The veteran Piyush Chawla showed his class with an impressive spell against Delhi Capitals. Chawla struck when the partnership between David Warner and Manish Pandey was going. He struck twice in quick succession dismissing Rovman Powell and Lalit Yadav to put Delhi Capitals under immense pressure.

Chawla ended with figures of 3 for 22 in 4 overs and stalled the progress of Delhi Capitals’ batting. With this spell, Piyush Chawla became the highest wicket-taker picking up 26 against Delhi Capitals in IPL history.

Rajasthan Royals bowler Ravichandran Ashwin held the record for most wickets against Delhi Capitals with 24 wickets.

  1. Rohit Sharma broke Virat Kohli’s record

Rohit Sharma had a great outing against Delhi Capitals. He holds the record for most runs by a batter against Delhi Capitals in IPL history.

MI captain Rohit Sharma scored match-winning 65 off 45 deliveries on 11 April, putting his overall record to 977 against Delhi Capitals.

Former Indian captain and RCB batter Virat Kohli held the record for most runs against Delhi Capitals. Kohli would look to regain his record when RCB will face Delhi Capitals at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru on 15 April. Kohli requires 53 runs to again be the top run-getter against Delhi Capitals in IPL.
