Pacer Mitchell McClenaghan engaged in a fun banter with Scott Styris on Twitter over the Mumbai Indians’ loss against the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the 2023 Indian Premier League. The Rohit Sharma-led team lost by eight wickets on Sunday, April 2 at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in their first game of the tournament.

The Mumbai Indians have lost 11 consecutive campaign openers in the Indian Premier League. They last won their opening game of the tournament back in 2012 against the Chennai Super Kings. Former Mumbai Indians pacer Mitchell McClenaghan defended the team’s loss highlighting the Mumbai Indians have never won the championship after winning their first game. He wrote,

“Positive Note. @mipaltan have never won a championship after winning the first game. Second Positive in general. How good is it to see games being played in Home grounds! Love it @IPL is back!”

Former Chennai Super Kings cricketer Scott Styris took a cheeky dig at the pacer and the Mumbai Indians. He reminded Mitchell McClenaghan that Mumbai Indians finished last in the 2022 Indian Premier League season, after losing their opening game. Styris wrote,

“Another positive note… Mumbai has also finished last when they didn’t win their first match 🙊🙊🙊”

Mitchell McClenaghan’s hilarious response to Scott Styris’ tweet

Mitchell McClenaghan shared a hilarious response to Scott Styris’ tweet. He reminded Scott Styris that Mumbai Indians have beat Chennai Super Kings twice in the Indian Premier League finals. The pacer further added that the third time Mumbai Indians defeated the Rising Pune SuperGiant team, which had several Chennai Super Kings players, with MS Dhoni as the skipper.

“On another positive note – on two occasions Mumbai beat CSK in the final and on a 3rd occasion beat CSK dressed as Pune 🤣🤣🤣,” wrote Mitchell McClenaghan.

The Mumbai Indians will take on the Chennai Super Kings in their second game of the 2023 Indian Premier League on Saturday, April 8 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
