The first match of IPL 2023 is to be played at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium, all the captains gathered the day before the Indian Premier League’s season-opening game for a special photo shoot with the trophy.

Fans on social media focused on Rohit Sharma’s absence, the captain of the Mumbai Indians, who were not present.

It is followed by a thrilling match at the Narendra Modi Stadium. The defending champion Gujarat Titans and the MS Dhoni captained Chennai Super Kings.

All of the captains gathered in Ahmedabad on the eve of the tournament’s start. The main highlight contains the special photo shoot with the elusive trophy they will be vying for. When Rohit Sharma, the captain of the Mumbai Indians (MI), was not visible in the photo. Its focus caught the attention of fans.

Rohit’s absence sparked some hilarious online joking between MI and rival fans. Supporters of the Mumbai-based team jokingly say that MI gave up. The others set of fans says that the Indian captain will be directly seen receiving the trophy at the end of the competition.

The photoshoot featured players from all other nine teams, including MS Dhoni of the Chennai Super Kings. Followed by Hardik Pandya of the Gujarat Titans, Shikhar Dhawan of the Punjab Kings, Faf Du Plessis of RCB, Nitish Rana of KKR, KL Rahul of LSG, Bhuvneshwar Kumar of the SRH, and David Warner of the Delhi Capitals.

It is worth noting that both DC and  KKR are without their designated captains. It is due to injuries to Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer. As Bhuvneshwar was SRH’s representative due to the regular skipping of Aiden Markram as being on international duty. This is the first time that Dhawan will be leading Punjab Kings.

Regarding Rohit’s absence from MI or the IPL, there has been no official statement. At Bengaluru’s M Chinnaswamy Stadium, the Rohit-led MI will play their season opener against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on Sunday, April 2.

Rohit has led MI to five IPL victories in 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2020, making him the league’s most successful captain.
