IPL 2023: Chennai Super Kings Win 5th IPL Trophy, Defeated GT In A Nail-biting Game

Chennai Super Kings won a record-equaling fifth Indian Premier League championship, where Ravindra Jadeja displayed his batting prowess and took the team home. Jadeja hit a six and a four off Mohit Sharma as MS Dhoni and the company needed 10 runs off the final two balls. Defeated the defending champions in a last-ball thriller in Ahmedabad that was marred by rain.

The CSK batters gave Mahendra Singh Dhoni the ideal “farewell” gift in what may turn out to be the legend’s final appearance in the premier T20 cricket league as per speculations. Chennai has now equalled the record of five IPL titles held by Mumbai Indians thanks to the thrilling 5-wicket victory at the largest cricket stadium in the world.

After a discouraging rain delay, Chennai’s batsmen got a revised target of 171 in 15 overs, and they executed it flawlessly, never allowing the required rate to exponentially increase in a difficult chase. Jadeja (15*) displayed excellent composure in the closing stages and scored 10 runs in the final two balls for an unforgettable triumph.

Devon Conway of New Zealand took the lead in the chase with a score of 25 off 25, followed by cameos from Ajinkya Rahane (27) and Shivam Dube, who scored an unbeaten 32, to pave the way for Jadeja’s heroics. With 13 needed off the last over, Mohit Sharma bowled four solid deliveries before Jadeja scored the winning runs, setting off wild celebrations in Ahmedabad.

Given that Dhoni, 41, continued to draw sizable crowds to venues throughout the season and that more than 80,000 fans cheered him during the final despite his earlier declaration that he would decide on his future later this year, it is likely that this will be the last game of his illustrious career.

Dhoni, who was taking part in his 250th IPL match, was dismissed for a first-ball duck as he returned to stunned silence, but in his 10th appearance in the championship match as the captain of Chennai, he emerged victorious.

At four without loss after three balls of their inning, Chennai was forced to leave the field due to the rain. The downpour lasted for roughly fifteen minutes, but one of the pitches’ covers came off and became damp. The ground staff spent more than two hours preparing the field for use.

Gujarat, who finished first on the table and won the championship in the T20 competition last year, scored 214-4 behind Sai Sudharsan’s 96 off 47 balls. A 20-ball 39 was scored by Gujarat’s in-form opener Shubman Gill. Deepak Chahar missed an easy catch from fast bowler Tushar Deshpande, and Gill, who leads the batting order with 890 runs and just completed his third century of the season in the most recent playoff, was out at three.

Before Dhoni’s lightning-quick glovework returned the batsman, stumped off Jadeja, the opener smashed Deshpande for three straight boundaries in the next over and continued the attack with regular hits to the fence.
