IPL 2023

On Monday, April 17, at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, RCB’s veteran allrounder Glenn Maxwell talked about his terrific innings during the run chase against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK).

In the third over, the score was 15-2 as the Australian international stepped up to the plate. Given that RCB had been given a 227-run target by CSK, he started playing right away with captain Faf du Plessis.

Before being bowled by Maheesh Theeksana in the 13th over, Maxwell had amassed 76 runs off 36 deliveries, including three fours and eight sixes. During the post-game press conference, Maxwell referred to his century at the M. Chinnswamy Ground during Australia’s tour of India in 2019.

“I firmly believe that historically, every time I have batted at No. I’ve played decently well overall, scoring 4 and taking 2 wickets early in the game. I have played this role before, especially with Australia, so I am quite accustomed to the pressure and the swinging of the new ball. International cricket is something that comes to mind even on this field. Especially when I’m going for the big total and the boundaries are narrow, it’s not something I find unfamiliar.”

2019’s first Twenty20 International between India and Australia in Bengaluru saw Maxwell score an unbeaten 113 points off of 55 deliveries. His strike enabled the guests to complete the 190-point feat with two remaining balls.

Maxwell attributed his success to having a clear head and playing a key role in the team

He said: “I strongly agree that simply having a very clear mindset also aids, and I am aware of the part I must play on the side. It was much easier for me to bat with Faf because we were able to maintain our momentum throughout the powerplay. After the powerplay, it was important to make sure that the run rate was still increasing.”

“I believe that during our key partnership, we got to a position in which we were having the upper hand. Unfortunately, it only takes one mistake to cause a chain reaction of errors.”

RCB was in a strong position at 141-2 after 12 overs, but CSK fought their way back into the match by taking wickets at regular intervals. In the final few overs, the Men in Yellow also bowled well, limiting RCB to 218-8 and ultimately winning by eight runs.
