IPL 2023: “I Didn’t Get The Job”. KKR Star Shares Previously Untold Tale Of U-19 Trials

The KKR star had to bounce back from being turned down during the U-19 trials before making his IPL debut

Whenever there is a setback, there is also a comeback. Suyash Sharma, a young player, had to overcome rejection during the U-19 trials before making an impressive debut in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 as an Impact Player.

Suyash, a key acquisition for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in IPL 2023. Recently expressed his disappointment at not being selected for the U-19 team.

Suyash Prabhudessai of the RCB is struck out by KKR Suyash Sharma

Against Virat Kohli’s Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), Sharma, an uncapped Indian bowler, picked up three wickets on his IPL debut at the age of 19, paving the way for KKR’s stunning victory at Eden Gardens.

The KK spinner admitted to being in tears after being rejected in an interview with IPL. The talented young man even shaved his head when he got home.

In an interview with IPL, Suyash stated, “Last year, I participated in U-19 trials and did well. I wasn’t chosen, and then between 12:30 and 1 am, they released a list, but I was asleep. Around three, I woke up and sobbed nonstop for two hours”.

”They want to watch me bowl once, I was told. The place won’t entertain me, they told me when I arrived. I came home, shaved my head, and went back crying. I was very let down”. Suyash said, “I couldn’t believe this was happening to me despite doing well”.

Earlier this season, the KKR star made his IPL debut in place of Venkatesh Iyer as Impact Player. In his first game against RCB. Suyash dismissed Dinesh Karthik (9), Anuj Rawat (1) and Karn Sharma (1).

It’s interesting to note that the KKR bowler made his IPL debut at Eden Gardens without ever taking part in a single professional match. I vowed to improve my abilities to the point where someday they’ll call me.

After some time, their performances improved, their hair began to grow back, and I made the decision to leave them alone. I looked good with the hairstyle, so I had long hair,” Suyash continued.

This year, the leg-spinner has made nine appearances, mostly as a key contributor. And has taken 10 wickets at an economy rate of eight.

Suyash competed and even caused some trouble for the left-hander with his googlies during KKR’s humiliating loss to RR. Where Yashasvi Jaiswal mauled pretty much every bowler.
