IPL 2023: List Of Injured Players And Replacements

The 2023 Indian Premier League is all set to kick off on March 31 with the defending champions Gujarat Titans to take on the Chennai Super Kings in the season opener at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad. All ten teams are gearing up for the much-awaited tournament. However, there have been some injury concerns for the franchises. While a few players have been ruled out of the season, the participation of some is uncertain.

In this article, we take a look at the list of injured players and the replacements named by the franchises.

Mumbai Indians

Jasprit Bumrah

Jasprit Bumrah has been out of action for several months, due to recurring back injuries. He has missed several international and domestic tournaments, including the T20 World Cup. The pacer has also been ruled out of the upcoming 2023 Indian Premier League. The Mumbai Indians are yet to name a replacement player.

Jhye Richardson 

Jhye Richardson is another Mumbai Indians pacer who will miss the upcoming Indian Premier League season. He underwent surgery for hamstring issues. The franchise is likely to name a replacement soon.

Delhi Capitals

Rishabh Pant 

Rishabh Pant suffered a horrific car accident last year in December. He suffered several injuries and hasn’t played since then. He underwent knee surgery in Mumbai and is on the road to recovery. However, as per Sourav Ganguly, Pant could take up to two years to play for India again. In his absence, David Warner will be leading the Delhi Capitals in the 2023 Indian Premier League.

Chennai Super Kings

Kyle Jamieson

Chennai Super Kings pacer Kyle Jamieson suffered a back injury and has been ruled out of the Indian Premier League season. He is likely to undergo surgery and will be out of action for atleast four months. The Chennai Super Kings have named Sisanda Magala as his replacement.

Royal Challengers Bangalore

Will Jacks

Will Jacks was signed by the Royal Challengers Bangalore for INR 3.2 crores. However, he has been ruled out of the upcoming Indian Premier League season. Michael Bracewell will replace Will Jacks in the Royal Challengers Bangalore team.

Rajasthan Royals

Prasidh Krishna

Prasidh Krishna underwent surgery for a lumbar stress fracture in his spine and will not participate in the upcoming Indian Premier League season. He was picked up by Rajasthan Royals in the 2022 auction for Rs 10 crore. Sandeep Sharma has joined the franchise as Prasidh Krishna’s replacement.

Punjab Kings

Jonny Bairstow

Jonny Bairstow suffered a freak leg injury while playing golf, back in September 2022. He is yet to recover fully from the injury, which has been ruled out of the upcoming season. Punjab Kings named uncapped Australian Matthew Short as his replacement.

Kolkata Knight Riders

Shreyas Iyer

Team India cricketer Shreyas Iyer is likely to undergo surgery for his back injury. According to multiple reports, he is set to be out of action for atleast four to five months. This may force him to lose atleast the first half of the Indian Premier League. Nitish Rana has been named the Kolkata Knight Riders captain in his absence.
