Royal Challengers Bangalore skipper Faf du Plessis spoke about his time playing under Mahendra Singh Dhoni, when he was with the Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League. Faf Du Plessis played for the Chennai Super Kings for many seasons, from 2011 to 2015, and then from 2018 to 2021. He expressed that he observed the Chennai Super Kings skipper keenly, and learned from him.
Speaking to NDTV in an interview, Faf du Plessis talked about the captains he has played under. He spoke highly about Mahendra Singh Dhoni, calling it a privilege to learn from him. The Royal Challengers Bangalore captain said,
“I was just observing MS from a distance. I was stealing from my eyes, and my ears why he is so successful, what makes him so successful. Even at that stage, one of the most successful international and domestic captains in the world of cricket. It was a privilege to learn from someone like that. But I think also something that I picked up really early on was the importance of being the leader that you are. I could never captain like MS or Virat or Graeme Smith or Stephen Fleming. I find my own way but you can look at things and incorporate from other people.”
Biggest thing I picked from MS Dhoni is how to be calm: Faf du Plessis
Mahendra Singh Dhoni is called ‘Captain Cool’ due to his calm demeanor on the field. Faf du Plessis expressed that he learned from Dhoni how to stay calm, and that has been reflected in his captaincy. He added that there is no one better than MS Dhoni to learn about staying cool on the field.
“Something that came from MS is how calm he is and I think that’s something that I have shown through my leadership as well. I am always trying to make sure that I am very clear with my players. You give your absolute best and move on. So, I think that will be the biggest one I picked from MS. He is called captain cool for a reason. There’s no greater guy to learn about being cool than MS Dhoni,”
