Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma was disappointed with their loss against the Lucknow Super Giants on Tuesday, May 16 at the Ekana Stadium in the 2023 Indian Premier League. They failed to chase down 178 runs, handing the hosts a close five-run win. The loss has hampered Mumbai Indians’ chances of qualifying for the playoff.

Mumbai Indians conceded 177 runs, bowling first on a slow track in Lucknow. In response, they got off to a brilliant start from their openers. Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan put together a 90-run opening stand. However, after Rohit Sharma’s dismissal, the scoring rate slowed down. With eleven runs needed off the final over, Mumbai Indians could only manage five.

Talking about the loss, Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma said,

“We just lost the game, that’s all I wanna say. We didn’t win the little moments in the game. In the end, it’s unfortunate, we need to keep our heads high.”

We gave more runs: Rohit Sharma

Mumbai Indians bowling performance especially in the death overs has been a cause of concern. Their bowling attack has consistently leaked runs, mounting the pressure on the batting unit. Skipper Rohit Sharma rues their performance in death-overs against Lucknow Super Giants. He said,

“We assessed the pitch really well, it was a really good pitch. It wasn’t the pitch we saw in the other games. It was a good batting pitch. I mean in hindsight if you look at it, in the end, we gave more runs.”

“In the last few overs, we lost our way. It was a chasable total but in the 2nd half, we lost the game,” he added.

Rohit Sharma is hopeful of qualifying for the playoff of the 2023 Indian Premier League. They take on the Sunrisers Hyderabad on Sunday, May 21 in Mumbai. He said,

“I don’t know how the calculations work but we need to play the next game well and win it.”
