The Sunday Chepauk crowd received a complete return on their investment. The crowd went wild when MS Dhoni hit two spectacular sixes in the final two balls of the first innings of the IPL 2023 match between the Chennai Super Kings and the Punjab Kings.

Following those two sixes, Dhoni dismissed Prabhsimran Singh in front of the cheering Chepauk crowd, using his impeccable glovework.

The hosts eventually finished with 200 for four in 20 overs. He then forced Prabhsimran Singh to resign in front of the assembled people while wearing an antique pair of gloves. But Dhoni’s cheeky dismissal, which allowed CSK to secure a crucial wicket, did contain a dash of swag.

This season, Prabhsimran has established himself as one of Punjab’s key batters. Prabhsimran took the helm against the Chennai attack after captain Shikhar Dhawan left the chase for 201 early. His 24-ball 42 kept PBKS well-positioned to complete the chase at least through the eighth over.

The second over of Dhoni’s innings saw Ravindra Jadeja brought back and Chennai benefited greatly from the combination. In the third ball of the ninth over, Jadeja cunningly slowed down the pace of his delivery as Prabhsimran stepped out to try to hit the big one off the tossed-up delivery.

However, he was too late as the ball had already turned away and the rest of the plot continued as usual. There was never an error with Dhoni behind the stumps.

Prabhsimran was well outside the crease when the CSK captain collected the ball and calmly stopped and waited before flicking the bails off. Prabhsimran did not react after missing the ball, which was cheeky of Dhoni. He was aware of the outcomes too.

Earlier in the game, Chennai’s innings came to an end with 200 for 4. Dhoni smashed two massive sixes, one over an awkward point and the other over midwicket. He hit two sixes in the 20th over to become the first Indian player to score 1000 runs in T20 cricket. The most ever in the history of the competition, 709 of those runs came in the IPL.
