With Shankar as the target, CSK pacer Chahar attempted a run out at the non-striker’s end on the second ball of the 14th over. Shankar, however, didn’t give way.
Even Dhoni could be seen grinning despite Chahar hitting the bails, which had no effect. Chahar grinned as well while glancing at Shankar.

Tuesday in Chennai, the Chennai Super Kings extended their remarkable consistency in the competition by defeating the tenacious Gujarat Giants by 15 runs on a slick surface to advance to their 10th IPL final.
After Hardik Pandya decided to bowl in Qualifier 1, CSK did well to reach 172 for 7 on a slow pitch. It turned out to be much higher than a competitive total, given the circumstances.
Gujarat Titans had a rare off day and were dismissed for 157 in 20 overs. With a 16-ball 30 near the end, Rashid Khan unnerved the CSK supporters, but it wasn’t enough to help the Titans.
However, in Qualifier 2 on Friday, the defending champions will have another opportunity to advance to a second straight final.
Gaikwad and Devon Conway both made some impressive shots to help CSK reach 49 for no loss at the end of the power play.
The four-time champion CSK advanced to their tenth final in 14 tournaments by making the best use of the home-field advantage, thanks to master tactician MS Dhoni. The 2016 and 2017 iterations saw CSK absent.
