Chennai Super Kings skipper MS Dhoni put up a blistering show against the Delhi Capitals on Wednesday, May 10 at the Chepauk Stadium in the 2023 Indian Premier League season. His knock along with great performances from Ravindra Jadeja and Matheesha Pathirana helped the team to secure a 27-run win. Post-game, MS Dhoni spoke about his role in the Chennai Super Kings batting line-up.

MS Dhoni played a fine cameo of 20 runs off just nine deliveries. He slammed a boundary and two sixes, to help the Super Kings to get past the 160 runs mark. So far, the wicket-keeper batter has scored 96 runs at a strike rate of 204.26 in the season. He expressed that his role in the team is to hit, and not focus on singles.

“My job is to hit a few deliveries. Do not make me run a lot. Happy to contribute to whatever deliveries I am getting. That is how I am practicing as well,” said Dhoni said at the post-match presentation.

As a batting unit, we can do better: MS Dhoni

The Chennai Super Kings managed 167 runs, batting first against the Delhi Capitals at Chepauk Stadium. The pitch offered help for the bowlers, as it was on the slower side. The hosts restricted the Delhi Capitals to 140 runs, registering their seventh win of the season. Speaking about the game, skipper MS Dhoni said,

“It turned a lot in the second half. We know that our spinners use a lot more seam than some of the other bowlers, thought it’ll slow down. We didn’t know what’s a good score. That’s why I wanted the bowlers to bowl their best deliveries but not look for wickets every delivery. That’s when you start not bowling well. I felt 166-170 was a good score. But as a batting unit, we can do better.”
