Delhi Capitals assistant coach Shane Watson has opened up on Prithvi Shaw’s struggles in the 2023 Indian Premier League. He expressed that the opener’s performance has been disappointing this season. The youngster started off the tournament with high expectations, however, he has failed to live up to those so far.
In seven matches, Prithvi Shaw has scored 101 runs, at an average of 14.43, and a strike rate of 129.48. He was dropped from the team after a few games but made a comeback recently against Punjab Kings. The opener slammed 54 runs off 38 deliveries, with seven boundaries and a six. Talking about Prithvi Shaw’s form, Shane Watson said,
“One of the most disappointing parts of DC this season was Prithvi Shaw. He’s one of the most beautiful batters to watch and take down the best bowling with the skills that he’s got.”
“And knowing that we gave him a big stretch to find his feet. We also knew he has been a little bit inconsistent as well in the past few years,” he added.

Delhi Capitals assistant coach Shane Watson further expressed that Prithvi Shaw worked on his batting when he was out of the team. He added that the opener is a talented player, and needs to be consistent. Shane Watson said on the eve of DC’s match against Chennai Super Kings on Saturday,
“But missing out on a few games he really centralised and focussed him on what direction he wants to go. Because he’s so incredibly skilled with the bat in hand he needs to bring every part of the game together.”
“He should be dominating international cricket. But sometimes it takes people some time to navigate how they can do that consistently. He certainly had an extra bit of fire in his belly the other day,” he added.
