IPL 2023: Rohit Sharma May Not Play Every Match, Suryakumar Yadav To Lead – Reports

Keeping in mind the World Test Championship finals to be played on 7 June 2023 against Australia at Kennington Oval, London, Mumbai Indians may not feature in all the matches of this year’s IPL tournament starting on 31 March.

Mumbai Indians finished last for the first time in IPL history during the 2022 edition of IPL. Rohit Sharma and company would be hoping for a much better performance. Rohit Sharma captained all four Test matches against Australia and took a break in the first ODI before returning for the next two ODI fixtures.

Rohit mentioned the importance of taking a break between IPL matches to keep himself fresh for the ICC World Test Championship finals.

The Indian Cricket Team will be the host of the ICC World Cup 2023 to be played in India. The Indian team will be without Jasprit Bumrah and Shreyas Iyer for the prestigious finals. The Men in Blue would look to end the ICC trophy drought by facing the Australian team.

If Rohit Sharma skips a few matches in IPL, Suryakumar Yadav would lead the Mumbai Indians franchise. Other Indians who will be in the WTC finals squad include Virat Kohli, Shubman Gill, Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj, Ravindra Jadeja, and R Ashwin.

Rohit Sharma would be without star Indian bowler Jasprit Bumrah as he has been ruled out of an injury. Jofra Archer returns to the MI squad after he missed last year’s edition due to an injury.

“It’s all up to the franchises now. They own them now. We have given some indications to the teams, but at the end of the day, it’s up to the franchises. And more importantly, it’s up to the players. They are all adults; they must look after their bodies. If they feel it’s getting a bit too much, they can talk about it and take a break in one or two games. I doubt if that will happen, but,” Rohit Sharma had said in Chennai.

Mumbai Indians look to improve their performance:

Mumbai Indians would look to improve their performance from last year. They won only 4 matches in the 14 matches they played in 2022. Rohit Sharma had a disappointing outing with the bat for MI with 268 runs from 14 matches ( 14 innings) without a single half-century.

MI franchise would be aiming for their sixth title with better performances, especially with the ball. They lacked the penetration last year as Jasprit Bumrah was the best bowler on display last year.
