The player was seen speaking with Sachin Tendulkar after the match against MI, during which Gill received the Player of the Match award.
When Sunil Gavaskar retired, the cricketing world pondered “who’s next,” and then came Sachin Tendulkar to rule the game.
Shubman Gill passed Virat Kohli’s century earlier this week with his match-winning hundred. On Friday, in front of the legendary Sachin, Gill displayed his third century of the IPL 2023.
Even though the two veteran stars in both instances experienced heartbreak. There was undoubtedly a smile and some admiration at witnessing a youngster rise and get set to rule the world of cricket.

Gill’s year has been this. He had a debut T20I century in January, a Test hundred in the Border-Gavaskar series against Australia in February. An ODI record double ton in between when he entered the IPL this year.
The 23-year-old then continued his sensational play in IPL 2023, scoring his first century at his beloved Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
He followed by two more against Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, and his third in just four innings against Mumbai Indians in Qualifier 2.
The batter’s score of 129 off just 60 balls now ranks as the highest ever recorded in the IPL playoffs.
The win increased his season total to 851 runs, moving him into third place overall while making him the second Indian batter after Virat Kohli to reach that mark in a season.

Gill was honored as Player of the Match for his record knock that helped GT easily advance to a second straight final with a 62-run victory in Ahmedabad. The opener was observed having an animated conversation with MI team coach Sachin.
”Playing ball to ball repeatedly is what it is for me. I gained the confidence to go big after the over when I hit three sixes. I then realized that it might just be my day. As for the wicket, it was favorable for batting”, according to Gill at the post-game presentation.
The IPL 2023 championship will now take place on Sunday at the same location, with Chennai Super Kings taking on GT.
