Gujarat Titans scored a staggering 233/3 in 20 overs thanks to Shubman Gill’s third century of the year. Gill scored 129 runs off of 60 balls, and Hardik Pandya and Rashid Khan delivered strong finishes to secure the victory for GT in the IPL 2023.

Shubman Gill, the opener for Gujarat Titans, smashed eight sixes on his way to a blazing century off just 49 balls during the IPL Qualifier 2 match against Mumbai Indians at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Friday.

Gill’s third century in as many innings this season, which cemented his place as one of the competition’s top players, was recorded by him in this one. He has now amassed over 800 runs in the IPL 2023 season with this amazing knock. Gill’s frenzied innings included eight sixes in addition to four fours.

By accomplishing this feat, Gill joined an elite group, becoming just the second player after Michael Klinger to score three centuries in four T20 innings. He became the seventh player to score a hundred in the IPL playoffs with a single off Cameron Green in the 14th over. Notably, he became the youngest player to reach this milestone at the age of 23 years and 260 days.

Tim David took a catch at deep mid-wicket to end Gill’s innings for 129 off 60 balls against pacer Akash Madhwal in the 17th over. During his crucial innings for the Titans, Gill hit 10 sixes and 7 fours.

Along with Rajat Patidar (2022 Eliminator) and Wriddhiman Saha (2014 final), he also holds the record for the fastest IPL playoff century, scoring a century off just 49 balls. In addition, Gill’s three centuries this year put him just three behind Virat Kohli (4 centuries in 2016) and Jos Buttler (4 centuries in 2022) in terms of the most centuries in an IPL season.

The captain of the Mumbai Indians, Rohit Sharma, earlier in the game decided to field first after winning the toss in the crucial playoff match.
