Sam Curran, the most expensive buy in the history of IPL whom Punjab Kings bought for a whopping 18.5 cr. helped his side win in a thriller against Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2023.
Over the years there have been multiple close games between these two sides, and yesterday’s game was another example of it. Punjab Kings posted a total of 198 on board from 20 overs.
Dhawan and Prabhsimran Singh got off to a fierce start in the first six. The duo added 90 runs for the first wicket, with Prabhsimran scoring 60 off 34 deliveries. The Captain stayed on the crease for full 20 overs scoring 86 off 56 balls. Shikhar Dhawan has finally found the rhythm back after 10 runs short of the half-century in the last match.
Punjab won Two in a row
Punjab Kings have now won 2 matches and sit in 2nd position in the points table. Although Rabada is available now, Punjab still did not include him against Rajasthan Royals. Punjab got off to a perfect start by getting 3 wickets in the first powerplay.
Nathan Ellis was the star for Punjab’s innings, the Aussie pacer took 4 wickets including the prizes wicket of Buttler. Dhruv Jurel and Hetmyer brought RR back into the game when they smashed 18 runs in the penultimate over.
It all got to Rajasthan needing 16 runs in the final over. Punjab brought their most expensive buy Sam Curran to restrict RR. Curran did not disappoint and took Punjab to victory. Curran gave 44 runs in his 4 over, but what mattered most was defending 16 runs in the last over.
“I think when it comes to this situation, it is do or die. If you know the yorker, you got to use it. Some days it would work and some days it won’t. They changed their ball during the end of their innings. But we weren’t able to,” Sam Curran said.
