There has never been a captain like Mahendra Singh Dhoni, and there likely never will be one like him in the future, according to batting legend Sunil Gavaskar, who named the Chennai Super Kings captain as the best in the history of the Indian Premier League.
On April 12, when CSK played Rajasthan Royals in Chennai and lost by three runs, Dhoni played his 200th game as captain of the team. The former captain of India, who is now 41, was the first player in IPL history to accomplish the feat.
“CSK has the ability to overcome obstacles. Only under MS Dhoni’s leadership has this been feasible. It’s very difficult to captain 200 games. It is a burden to the captain so many games, and it may have had an impact on his performance as well,” according to Gavaskar, a former captain of India.
“Mahi, though, is unique. He is not the same captain. There has never been a captain like him, and there won’t be in the future,” according to Gavaskar in a statement from IPL broadcasters.
MS Dhoni has been in good form alongside his team, CSK
Except for the two years (2016–17), the team was suspended due to the involvement of their officials in illegal activities, Dhoni has been a member of CSK since the start of the IPL. He captained the now-defunct Rising Pune Supergiants in 14 games in the 2016 season, bringing his overall number of games as captain to 214.
Four IPL championships have been won by Dhoni’s CSK. His record as CSK’s captain is 120 victories, 79 defeats, and one game without a result up until the match against RR on April 12.
Virat Kohli, the team’s star batter, has helped Royal Challengers Bangalore to a strong start in their games thus far this season, and Gavaskar praised him for it.
At the beginning of the innings, Virat Kohli is giving the RCB flying starts. He deserves a lot of credit for the starts that RCB is getting and the runs that the team is able to score as a result of those starts. For RCB, these are encouraging signs.
