Mumbai Indians pacer Jason Behrendorff highlighted the importance of their win against the Royal Challengers Bangalore on Tuesday, May 9 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai in the 2023 Indian Premier League as the race for the playoffs has gotten tighter. The hosts chased down 200 runs comfortably, on the back of brilliant knocks from Suryakumar Yadav, Nehal Wadhera, and Ishan Kishan. They registered their sixth win of the season.

The Mumbai Indians are now placed third on the points table after their win against Bangalore. They have twelve points from eleven games, with a Net Run Rate of -0.255. However, they still have to win their remaining three to increase their chances of qualifying for the playoffs. Mumbai Indians pacer Jason Behrendorff expressed the tight competition in the tournament this year. He said,

“The competition’s so tight (this year). This was a very important win for us, that’s for sure. So hopefully we just need to keep this momentum rolling. We’ve got three big games coming up.”

We really needed to break Faf du Plessis and Glenn Maxwell’s partnership: Jason Behrendorff

Jason Behrendorff got the Mumbai Indians to a great start against the Royal Challengers Bangalore by dismissing Virat Kohli and Anuj Rawat. After their dismissals, Faf du Plessis and Glenn Maxwell put together an outstanding partnership of 120 runs. Behrendorff provided an important breakthrough by dismissing Glenn Maxwell. Speaking about the importance of the dismissal, the pacer said,

“I think the partnership was about 100 or 50 balls at one stage. So, we really needed, to break that partnership. We had a few different plans, a few things nearly worked and then yeah, we were able to sort of crack through it at the back end, which gave us a really good opportunity to dry them up toward the end of the innings.”

“If we can take wickets at regular intervals and it stems the flow of the batters and gain like we were able to take consistent wickets throughout the innings, which helped after that big partnership,” he added.
