IPL 2023: Wasim Akram Offers A Bold Reason For Why Indian Pacers Injure So Frequently

Wasim Akram expressed his opinions on the frequent injuries suffered by fast bowlers in contemporary cricket.

Wasim Akram, a legendary Pakistani pacer, has expressed his opinions on the frequent injuries suffered by fast bowlers in contemporary cricket. Injuries to pacers like Jasprit Bumrah and Deepak Chahar have caused India’s team to struggle.

The absence of fundamental training regimens like running, in Akram’s opinion, is one of the main causes of this. Fast bowlers should bowl as many deliveries as they can to stay in shape, according to the former Pakistani captain.

India has been struggling with long-term injuries to Jasprit Bumrah and Deepak Chahar

A fast bowler’s exercise regimen must include a significant amount of running. Only in the last three years of my career did I go to the gym.

I would have played between 100 and 150 first-class matches during my ten seasons with Lancashire. They won’t get out of bed for six days after you play these Pacers’ two top-notch games here. According to Akram, their bodies are not accustomed to it.

The 56-year-old pacer gave advice to the current crop of pacers while discussing his training regimen from his playing days, urging them to bowl more in the nets to stay match-fit.

Try to bowl long spells in the nets for at least an hour two to three days prior to a game. Another piece of advice I would give to young people is to concentrate on 4-day cricket as well.

If you bowl only 3 overs, how do you expect your body muscles to remain ready for the game? T20 cricket and the IPL are here to stay. However, as you bowl longer spells when playing four-day cricket, your pace will increase and injury risks will decrease, he said.

India has been worried in particular about Bumrah’s injury. In June, when Australia plays in the World Test Championship (WTC) final, he will be absent. Also unknown is whether he will play in the upcoming ODI World Cup.
