In Qualifier 1 at Chepauk in the IPL 2023, the four-time IPL champions Chennai Super Kings, led by MS Dhoni defeated Gujarat Titans (GT) by 15 runs. The Titans’ journey is still not over, though. As he led Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to their tenth Indian Premier League (IPL) final on Tuesday night, MS Dhoni added another significant achievement to his illustrious career.

However, there was one incident in IPL 2023 Qualifier 1 vs. GT that didn’t sit well with the fans. Dhoni, as usual, was right on with the majority of his on-field choices. After a heated discussion with the umpires about Pathirana, Dhoni’s “unacceptable” act was criticized; Gavaskar became enraged.

If they succeed in defeating the winners of the Eliminator between The Lucknow Super Giants and Mumbai Indians in their upcoming Qualifier 2 match, They will have an additional chance to compete against CSK at the championship. Almost every expert during commentary remarked that Dhoni, as per usual, made the right choices for the majority of his on-field actions.

But one incident, in particular, didn’t go over well with the crowd, and even the legendary Indian batsman Sunil Gavaskar, who had received Dhoni’s autograph on his shirt a few days earlier, couldn’t get over it.

Before GT’s chase reached its fifteenth over, the incident occurred. With the umpires, Dhoni was observed conversing. While the situation wasn’t entirely clear at first, many people later noted that the CSK captain had intentionally wasted time.

Because the right-arm pacer had not been on the field for as long as he had been off it. The umpire refused to allow Matheesha Pathirana to bowl his second over. As other CSK players surrounded the umpires, Dhoni deftly kept them engaged until the time ran out. Before Pathirana was allowed to bowl, CSK and Dhoni halted play for almost four minutes.

”You accept the umpire’s decision”, Gavaskar said in response to the incident. ”Even if the umpire occasionally makes a mistake under pressure”.

If this is in the rule its a Bizarre rule. If this is not in the rule then why Dhoni was allowed to stop the play by Umpires ? We do not expect such things from Captain like MS Dhoni. (2/2)#CSKvsGT #iplfinal #IPL2O23

Gujarat was eventually bowled out for 157 in the final ball of their innings. Pathirana eventually fulfilled his goal of taking two wickets while giving up 37 runs. CSK won by 15 runs, advancing to another IPL championship game. Ruturaj Gaikwad was Awarded the Player of the Match for his 60 off 44 balls.
