Punjab Kings stunned Rajasthan Royals in a high-scoring thriller played at Basapara Stadium, Guwahati on 5 April 2023 in the IPL 2023.
Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson won the toss and decided to field first. It was an aggressive start by Prabhsimran Singh putting pressure on RR bowlers right from the word go. On other hand, Shikhar Dhawan looked cautious keeping. At the end of the first six overs, Punjab Kings raced away to 63 without losing any wickets.
Prabhsimran Singh looked in sublime touch putting enough pressure on RR bowlers to reach his maiden IPL fifty off 28 deliveries. Jos Buttler took a stunning diving catch to dismiss Prabhsimran Singh in the 10th over breaking the opening partnership of 90 runs. Singh was dismissed for 60 off 34 balls with 9 fours and 3 sixes.

Bhaunka Rajapaksa was forced to retire hurt as a powerful shot by Shikhar Dhawan hit him. Jitesh Sharma showed positive intent right from word go continuing their aggressive intent. On other hand, Dhawan kept the pressure on RR bowlers after a slow start. Dhawan completed half-century off 36 deliveries. Punjab Kings captain looked in great touch remaining unbeaten on 86 off 56 deliveries with 9 fours and 3 sixes. At the end of 20 overs, Punjab Kings posted 197 for 4.
Rajasthan Royals fell short of the target.
Chasing down 198 runs to win, Ravichandran Ashwin opened the innings along with Jaiswal. Jaiswal went cheaply providing a simple catch to substitute Matthew Short. Ravichandran Ashwin struggled to be dismissed without opening his account.
Buttler looked in great touch coming at number 3 before a lovely caught and bowled dismissal by Nathan Ellis left RR struggling. Buttler and Samson added 31 runs for the 3rd wicket.
Nathan Ellis looked in great bowling form with another big wicket of Sanju Samson. Riyan Parag showed his class with some lusty blows before Ellis did the job by getting Riyan Parag. Parag and Paddikal added 40 runs for the 5th wicket.
The match looked down and out for Rajasthan Royals as they lost the 6th wicket of Paddikal. Shimron Hetymer and impact player Dhruv Juyal showed their class smashing Sam Curran and Arshdeep Singh for big shots giving RR some hope of winning the match.
Shimron Hetymer wanted to take strike but Jurel did not want to second run. Hetymer and Jurel added 62 runs for the 7th wicket. It was not enough as RR lost the match by just 5 runs.
