Chennai Super Kings continued their winning momentum as they defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad comfortably at M Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai on 21 April 2023.
CSK captain MS Dhoni won the toss and decided to field first. The incident took place after the fall of Aiden Markram’s wicket. Ravindra Jadeja dropped a simple chance of Mayank Agarwal and got annoyed as Klassen came in his way. Jadeja eventually dismissed Mayank in the same over to leave SRH in trouble.

Harry Brook and Abhishek Sharma began the innings brightly with positive intent before Akash Singh dismissed Brook with a simple catch by Gaikwad. SRH openers added 35 runs laying strong foundation for decent total. Abhishek Sharma looked impressive with his intent to put pressure on CSK bowlers. At the end of the first six overs, SRH scored 45 for 1.
Sharma and Tripathi kept the momentum going for SRH. Soon after the first timeout, Jadeja struck to dismiss Abhishek Sharma with a simple catch to Rahane at long-on. Sharma and Tripathi added 36 runs for the 2nd wicket. Chennai Super Kings bowlers did not allow SRH batters to score runs easily. It was a superb bowling effort as CSK restricted SRH to just 134 for 7 in 20 overs.
Devon Conway leads the way for CSK.
Chasing 135 runs to win, Devon Conway looked in sublime form putting pressure on SRH bowlers with brilliant shots. Ruturaj Gaikwad showed his class kept the scoreboard ticking. At the end of the first six overs, CSK openers raced away to 60 for 0.
Ruturaj Gaikwad was dismissed in an unfortunate manner as Conway hit a straight shot hitting Umran Malik’s hand onto the wicket. Gaikwad and Conway added 87 runs for the opening wicket.
After the first timeout, Conway continued his aggressive shots and completed fifty off 33 deliveries. Markande dismissed Ajiyanka Rahane and Ambati Rayudu cheaply. It was a superb knock by Conway as he made an unbeaten 77 off 57 deliveries with 12 fours and 1 six. CSK chased down the target easily by 7 wickets with 8 balls to spare.
For his figures of 3 for 22 in 4 overs, Ravindra Jadeja was named the player of the match. With this win, CSK has 8 points and at the number 3 spot.
