Royal Challengers Bangalore defeated Punjab Kings by 24 runs at PCA Stadium, Mohali on 20 April 2023 in the IPL 2023. Virat Kohli and Glenn Maxwell were seen playing with stone paper scissors during the DRS review. The incident took place in the 11th over as Jitesh Sharma was given out by the umpire but on review, it was overturned to not out as it was missing the leg stump.

Jitesh Sharma took the chance of the DRS reprieve and showed intent with aggressive batting. It was a tall task for Punjab Kings’ batters as they lost the match by 24 runs. With this win, Royal Challengers Bangalore registered their 3rd win in 6 matches.

Mohammed Siraj was the pick of bowlers for Royal Challengers Bangalore. He started the Punjab King’s innings by getting rid of Atharva Taide with a review. The umpire gave not out and on review, it was overturned to out. Siraj then struck again to dismiss dangerous Liam Livingstone with a review. The umpire gave it not out but on review it was overturned to out.

He bowled with great control not allowing PBKS batters to score runs easily. Siraj was bought for his fourth over getting two wickets in one over dismissing Harpreet Brar and Nathan Ellis to change the fortune in favour of RCB. It was a disciplined bowling performance by RCB bowlers skittling out PBKS for 151. For his match-winning performance of 4 for 21 in 4 overs, Siraj was named the Player of the Match award.

Faf du Plessis and Virat Kohli continued their superb form

Virat Kohli was appointed as the captain for this match due to an injury while Faf du Plessis came as an impact player. Kohli and Faf showed their class by putting enough pressure on PBKS bowlers right from the word go. At the end of the first six overs, RCB scored 59 for 0.

After the field restrictions, Faf and Kohli struggled against disciplined PBKS bowling but continued to milk runs. Faf completed his fifty off 31 deliveries while Kohli reached his fifty off 40 balls keeping the scoreboard ticking. Brar took 2 wickets in the same over dismissing Kohli and Maxwell. Kohli and Faf added 137 runs for the opening wicket.

Faf was eventually dismissed for 84 helping RCB to post 174 for 4. It was a superb batting performance by Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis who has been in sensational form during the ongoing IPL for RCB.
