IPL 2024: 3 Changes That Mumbai Indians Should Make To Get Back To Winning Zone
MI

Mumbai Indians suffered their 3rd successive loss to Rajasthan Royals by 6 wickets at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on 1st April 2024. It was a disappointing outing for the hosts as they looked in trouble right from the word go, losing 4 wickets in the first six overs. Hardik Pandya was the top scorer with 34 as MI could make 125 for 9 in 20 overs.

Akash Madhwal picked 3 wickets, but it was not enough as Mumbai Indians lost the match comfortably. Mumbai Indians lost to Gujarat Titans, and Sunrisers Hyderabad in the first two matches. They will play against Delhi Capitals in their next match on 7th April 2024.

Here we look at the 3 changes that Mumbai Indians should make to get back to winning ways in IPL 2024:

  1. Good Utilization of Jasprit Bumrah

Jasprit Bumrah took the new ball in yesterday’s match against Rajasthan Royals. Defending a modest total of 126, Bumrah looked sharp going past the edge of the bat numerous times.

After delivering 3 overs with the new ball, Bumrah was given the fourth over in the later stages when Riyan Parag was going strong. Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya must use him in the first six overs which would put pressure on the opponent batters.

  1. Tim David Must Bat Higher

Tim David batted lower down the order in the three matches he has played so far. His best score in the tournament has been 42 against Sunrisers Hyderabad where Mumbai Indians made 246 in reply of 277.

David’s ideal position is to bat at number 5. This will help him to play accordingly and put enough pressure on the bowlers with his explosive nature. The team management would be ensuring that David should bat higher and Hardik Pandya as a finisher that will help Mumbai Indians get back to winning ways.

With no Suryakumar Yadav in the batting department, the onus will be on Tim David to come higher and play long to help MI post or chase down targets.

  1. Bring Nuwan Thusara to replace Maphaka.

The Under 19 bowler Kwena Maphaka has struggled in the IPL 2024 so far. He was belted for 66 runs in his 4 overs against Sunrisers Hyderabad where MI conceded 277 runs.

Maphaka got rid of Jaiswal in the first over against RR but could not make an impact afterward. Sri Lankan pace bowler Nuwan Thusara would be an ideal replacement. His performance in the shortest format has been brilliant with 5 wicket haul including hattrick against Bangladesh.

The inclusion of Thusara would increase their bowling department and variety which would create doubts on batters mind.
