The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 auction was conducted on Tuesday, December 19 at the Coca-Cola Arena in Dubai. The auction witnessed as many as 74 players signings for a whopping sum of Rs. 230.45 crores. However, the franchises will still have a chance to make changes to their squads for the upcoming season.

According to the Indian Premier League regulations, the trading window will open once again after the auction. The window begins a month after the conclusion of a season and remains open till a week before the auction date. It again opens after the auction and will remain open till a month before the next season.

For the upcoming season, the transfer window opened again on Wednesday, December 20. In the trading window, the franchises are allowed to make changes to their squad. They can either swap players or buy them from the other franchises in an all-cash deal. However, the IPL governing council reserves the right to make the final approval for the trade.

Trades before the Indian Premier League 2024 auction

The initial trading window for the Indian Premier League 2024 season witnessed three trade deals being completed. The Rajasthan Royals and the Lucknow Super Giants swapped players, Devdutt Padikkal and Avesh Khan for the upcoming season. Meanwhile, the Sunrisers Hyderabad and Royal Challengers Bangalore also swapped Mayank Dagar and Shahbaz Ahmed.

The biggest trade of the season was between the Mumbai Indians and the Gujarat Titans. The Mumbai Indians signed Hardik Pandya in an all-cash deal from the Gujarat Titans. The all-rounder, who led the Titans brilliantly in the last two seasons, will be leading the Mumbai Indians in the upcoming edition. He will be replacing Rohit Sharma as their captain. The franchise was the busiest during the trading window as they also traded out Cameron Green to the Royal Challengers Bangalore. They also signed Romario Shephard from the Lucknow Super Giants.
