Mumbai Indians’ standout player Ishan Kishan has been fined 10% of his match fees for breaching the ICC Code of Conduct in the match against Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Saturday (April 27).
Following the match, the IPL issued a statement indicating that the batsman was guilty of a Level 1 offence, which he acknowledged. The wicketkeeper-batsman also accepted the match referee’s penalty. Reports suggest Ishan Kishan was fined for misconduct involving cricket and ground equipment during the match against Delhi Capitals.
“Mr Ishan Kishan, Wicketkeeper-batter, Mumbai Indians has been reprimanded and fined 10 per cent of his match fees for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during Match 43 of the TΑΤΑ Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 against Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi on April 27, 2024,” stated the release.
“Kishan committed a Level 1 offence under Article 2.2 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct. He admitted to the offence and accepted the Match Referee’s sanction. For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee’s decision is final and binding,” added the statement.
Ishan Kishan’s poor performance contributed to Mumbai Indians’ defeat
Discussing the match, Mumbai Indians’ already narrow playoff prospects suffered a significant setback with a 10-run defeat to Delhi Capitals. DC, batting first, posted an imposing score of 257 for 4 in 20 overs. Jake Fraser-McGurk emerged as the standout performer for the hosts, striking an impressive 84 runs from only 27 deliveries, including 11 boundaries and six maximums.
Responding, Mumbai Indians showed resilience but ultimately fell 10 runs shy, concluding their innings at 247/7. Tilak Varma led the scoring for the five-time IPL champions with 63 runs off 32 balls. However, Ishan Kishan struggled, managing only 20 runs before being dismissed.
With three victories and six losses from nine matches, Mumbai Indians appear destined to miss the playoffs. They require a remarkable turnaround to secure a spot in the next stage. Another misstep could effectively eliminate them from playoff contention.
