Mitchell Starc shone for the Kolkata Knight Riders in Qualifier 1 and the final of the 2024 Indian Premier League, attributing his success to his wife, Alyssa Healy. Mitchell Starc entered IPL 2024 with high expectations after being bought for ₹24.75 crore at the auction.
However, he initially struggled, facing heavy criticism as he conceded over 100 runs in his first two matches at an economy rate of 12.50 without taking a wicket. Despite this rough start, Starc made a dramatic comeback in the playoffs. In Qualifier 1, he took three crucial wickets to dismantle the SunRisers Hyderabad’s batting lineup.
In the final, he continued his stellar performance by claiming two wickets, including a standout dismissal of Abhishek Sharma with what was arguably the best delivery of IPL 2024. The veteran cricketer made history by becoming the first player to be named Player of the Match twice in the playoffs, earning the honor in both Qualifier 1 and the final.
Mitchell Starc attributed his improved performance to his wife, celebrated cricketer Alyssa Healy, noting that his game had picked up since her recent arrival. Speaking to Star Sports, the Australian cricketer said:
“Everything’s better since Alyssa (Healy) has turned up.”

Healy was first seen in the stands during KKR’s match against the Mumbai Indians at Wankhede Stadium. From that point on, Starc’s performance improved significantly. He ended the tournament with 17 wickets in 14 games, playing a crucial role in KKR’s first IPL title win in a decade.

Mitchell Starc was at a loss for words after the Knight Riders secured a decisive win in the IPL 2024 final at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. He stated that the victory truly reflected the team’s performance. Speaking to the host broadcasters after the final, Starc said:
“Great night for KKR. What a game, what a series, what a season. Probably the two most exciting teams in the final, it was a great night. It was an upward journey from the start of the IPL till now.”
“We’ve had a fantastic squad of bowlers and batters, our staff have been fantastic to get everyone peaking for the back end of the tournament. We’ve been such a consistent side, we haven’t had one or two people standout, it’s been contributions from everyone.”
