Royal Challengers Bengaluru captain Faf du Plessis was at his best form against Gujarat Titans scoring the second-fastest fifty by an RCB batter in IPL history. He achieved this feat at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru on 4th May 2024.

Chasing down a modest total of 148, Faf du Plessis showed intent right from the word go putting the pressure right on the GT bowlers including Mohit Sharma. He hammered other bowlers including Joshua Little, and Manav Suthar keeping the momentum going for RCB. He completed fifty off just 18 deliveries, not allowing GT bowlers to settle.

Faf continued his aggressive style of approach, dismissed for 64 off 23 deliveries with 10 boundaries and 3 sixes. He and Kohli added 92 runs in 5.5 overs which put GT bowlers under immense pressure. After the fall of du Plessis’s wicket, RCB kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Will Jacks, Rajat Patidar, Glenn Maxwell, Cameron Green and Kohli went cheaply to be in some trouble. Dinesh Karthik and Swapnil Singh rescued things as RCB chased down the target in 13.4 overs.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru tested the GT batters with discipline lines and lengths. They gave away 23 runs picking 3 wickets in the first overs. RCB bowlers kept taking wickets at regular intervals.

Fastest fifty by an RCB batter in IPL history

Chris Gayle holds the record of the fastest fifty by an RCB batter in IPL history. He achieved this feat against Pune Warriors India in the 2013 edition played at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru.

Gayle hammered the Pune Warriors India bowlers smashing fifty off just 17 deliveries. He remained unbeaten on 175 and helped RCB post 263 for 5 in 20 overs.

RCB bowlers made a solid impression right from the word go against Gujarat Titans. Mohammed Siraj was impressive getting two early wickets of Saha and Gill that dented GT. It was disciplined bowling by RCB as Yash Dayal and Vijaykumar Vyshak also took 2 wickets each.

With this win, RCB moved to number 7th in the points table. They need to win all their remaining three matches and hope other results go in their favour.
