Mumbai Indians will face Gujarat Titans in a much-anticipated clash to be played at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad on 24th March 2024. Hardik Pandya will captain Mumbai Indians side replacing his former team Gujarat Titans.
Shubman Gill would lead the side replacing Hardik Pandya. Mumbai Indians would miss the service of Suryakumar Yadav as he is still recovering from an injury. Both teams have quality players who can change the match with their abilities.
Here we look at the 3 player battles between Mumbai Indians and Gujarat Titans in match number 5 of IPL 2024:
- Shubman Gill vs Jasprit Bumrah
Shubman Gill had a great season last year for Gujarat Titans and will look to provide a flying start to the team. Jasprit Bumrah would be eager after missing last year’s IPL due to an injury.
Bumrah has dismissed Shubman Gill once in IPL history in seven matches. It promises to be an exciting battle as both top-quality players would look to provide decent starts and make sure that their team starts with a win.
Jasprit Bumrah has a superb record of 6.65 runs per over in the first six overs. It will be interesting to see who comes at the top.
- Rohit Sharma vs Spencer Johnson
Rohit Sharma will look to attack and give Mumbai Indians a flying start putting enough pressure on Gujarat Titans bowlers. It promises to be an exciting thing that Rohit would play freely as he is not captain anymore.
On the other hand, Spencer Johnson who has done well in BBL 13 is likely to make his IPL debut for Gujarat Titans would likely do the job with little swing in the initial stages and would be a threat to Mumbai Indians in the first six overs.
Rohit Sharma has troubles with left-arm pacers which could see Spencer showcase his skills.
- Hardik Pandya vs Rashid Khan
Hardik Pandya would face his former teammate Rashid Khan. Rashid Khan looked impressive in last year’s IPL picking wickets in middle overs and not allowing the opponent batters to score runs freely.
Hardik Pandya struggles against leg spinners which might see Gujarat Titans employ Rashid Khan whenever the MI captain comes into bat. Rashid has dismissed Pandya twice in IPL history with Hardik having a strike rate of 73.
Rashid Khan and Hardik Pandya played for Gujarat Titans in 2022 and 2023. It promises to be an exciting battle as both team-champion players look to create an impact and help their teams win the opening match.
