Given the team’s predicament, it was anticipated that skipper Hardik Pandya would lead from the front and rescue them from trouble. However, the all-rounder couldn’t deliver as his struggle with the bat persisted in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024.
Hardik Pandya was dismissed for a golden duck by Naveen-ul-Haq. The fast bowler delivered a pitched-up ball, prompting the all-rounder to attempt a straight drive. However, Pandya edged the ball, which was caught by KL Rahul behind the stumps.
With Pandya’s wicket, Mumbai Indians found themselves struggling at 27/4. Despite scoring 45 runs in the previous game, the all-rounder faced another setback in the league. In IPL 2024 overall, Pandya has accumulated 197 runs in 10 innings, averaging 21.88 with a strike rate of 150.38.
This marked Hardik Pandya’s third golden duck in the IPL. The all-rounder will be eager to contribute with the ball now. For Mumbai Indians to have any hope of winning the game, Pandya must elevate his performance not only with the ball but also in his leadership as captain.
