IPL 2024: “I’m Impressed By The Progress Rishabh Pant Has Shown”- Sourav Ganguly

Sourav Ganguly, the director of cricket for Delhi Capitals (DC), expressed his astonishment at the strides made by wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant since his return following the traumatic car accident in December 2022.

Pant, who sat out the previous IPL season, is set to return to action in the upcoming tournament, much to the joy of fans and the cricketing community. The 26-year-old will resume his role as captain for the Delhi Capitals.

Discussing Rishabh Pant’s resolve to return to the field and resume his passion for cricket, Ganguly was quoted by the Times of India as saying:

“I’m surprised with the improvements he has made. Hopefully, it’s a good season for him because he has gone through a lot emotionally. It’s never easy when you go through that sort of injury.”

“It will be great to see him back not just for the Delhi Capitals, but for the Delhi Ranji team and for India as well because he is a special talent, a special player.”

“I’m excited to see Rishabh Pant perform in the tournament”- Sourav Ganguly

Pant’s most recent appearance was in India’s second Test against Bangladesh at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur, Dhaka, in December 2022. The left-handed batsman scored 93 and 9 in the two innings of the Test, contributing to India’s victory by three wickets and securing a series win with a 2-0 margin.

Speaking highly of Pant, Ganguly acknowledged his anticipation to witness the wicketkeeper-batsman in action during the 2024 IPL.

“He is not the conservative type of batter, so you expect that character in his captaincy. Nobody comes as a ready-made captain. You learn as you go and I think captaincy is by instinct. I’m looking forward to watching him during the tournament,” the former Indian skipper added.

Delhi Capitals will kick off their 2024 IPL journey with an away match against Punjab Kings at the newly constructed Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur on Saturday, March 22nd.
