Jason Roy will not take part in the Indian Premier League 2024 due to personal reasons. They named hard-hitting England batter Phil Salt for the upcoming season starting from 22nd March.
Roy was bought by the Kolkata Knight Riders franchise in IPL 2023 as Shreyas Iyer and Shakib AL Hasan could not play due to various reasons. KKR named Phil Salt as his replacement for a base price of 1.5 Crore. It is a great signing for KKR as the hard-hitting batters shown tremendous success in the shorter format.
Phil Salt remained unsold after the IPL 2024 auction as none of the franchises bought him. He represented Delhi Capitals during last year’s edition. Salt showed his class with 2 centuries against the West Indies in December during December 2023. The hard-hitting England batter scored the joint-fastest century for England off 48 balls in the 4th T20I match in Trinidad.
The dashing Salt would be looking to make a major impact for Kolkata Knight Riders this season. Kolkata Knight Riders had a disappointing outing not qualify for the playoff stage due to a lack of quality batters.
Performance of Salt and Roy In IPL 2023
Jason Roy had a decent outing in IPL 2023 for KKR. He made 285 runs from 8 matches (8 innings) with 2 half-centuries to his name including the best score of 61. Despite his performances, Kolkata Knight Riders struggled with his batting and could not help KKR to qualify for the playoff stage.
Phil Salt had a decent outing for Delhi Capitals in IPL 2023. He opened the innings for Delhi Capitals and provided flying starts putting enough pressure on the bowlers with aggressive style of batting. Salt scored 218 runs from 9 matches (9 innings) including 2 half-centuries with the best score of 87.
KKR named Dushmantha Chameera for Gus Atkinson due to an injury. Kolkata Knight Riders will be looking to showcase their skills with Gautam Gambhir coming back as a mentor. They would begin IPL 2024 against Sunrisers Hyderabad on 23rd March.
