IPL 2024: MS Dhoni Makes History As CSK Convincingly Defeat SRH

On Sunday (April 28), MS Dhoni made history once again, adding another remarkable achievement to his impressive career. The former Indian captain accomplished this feat during the match between Chennai Super Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

CSK dominated SRH, securing a stylish return to winning form with a 78-run victory. Opting to bat first, the defending champions amassed a formidable total of 212 for 3 in 20 overs, spearheaded by captain Ruturaj Gaikwad’s commanding performance.

Gaikwad fell just two runs short of his second consecutive century this season, scoring an impressive 98 runs, while Daryl Mitchell also contributed with a crucial fifty.

Responding, SRH collapsed for 134 runs within 19 overs. Tushar Deshpande’s early wickets of Travis Head, Abhishek Sharma, and Anmolpreet Singh during the powerplay hindered SRH’s recovery, leaving them out of contention to chase the target. Apart from Aiden Markram’s 32 runs, none of the other SRH batsmen managed to surpass 25 runs.

The historic achievement by MS Dhoni

Although MS Dhoni didn’t have a significant influence with either the bat or the wicketkeeping gloves against SRH, he still achieved a remarkable milestone. The former CSK captain became the inaugural player in the tournament’s history to contribute to 150 victories.

The experienced wicketkeeper-batsman has been participating in the IPL since its inception in 2008 and has appeared in 259 matches to date.

Following MS Dhoni, Ravindra Jadeja has been involved in the most victories as a player in the IPL, followed by Rohit Sharma from Mumbai Indians, Dinesh Karthik from Royal Challengers Bangalore, and former CSK batsman Suresh Raina.

Besides being the player with the most victories, MS Dhoni also holds the record for the most wins as a captain. He clinched 133 victories as a captain in the IPL, a milestone untouched by any other captain who hasn’t reached the 100-win mark yet.

Following Dhoni is Rohit Sharma, securing the second spot with 87 wins. Just prior to the ongoing season, MS Dhoni relinquished his role as the CSK captain, passing the leadership to Ruturaj Gaikwad.

Under Dhoni’s guidance, CSK secured an unprecedented five titles and qualified for the final on five other occasions.
