Ex-West Indies opener Chris Gayle suggests that the iconic MS Dhoni may not feature in every IPL 2024 match. Gayle stated that Dhoni is likely to take a mid-tournament break, which is why he relinquished the captaincy of Chennai Super Kings to Ruturaj Gaikwad ahead of the season.
“He (MS Dhoni) might not play all games. There may be a little break in between for him. that’s why the decision. But MSD will go well, don’t worry about that,”Gayle made the statement on Jio Cinema. Gayle’s remarks were made prior to the CSK vs RCB IPL 2024 opener in Chennai.
Since 2020, Dhoni has exclusively participated in the IPL. Amidst speculation about his retirement last year, the five-time IPL-winning captain persevered through a knee injury, completing the entire season, and pledged to return for the fans this year.
Dhoni has indeed fulfilled his promise, albeit not as captain, having entrusted Gaikwad with leading the franchise forward. Any doubts regarding Dhoni’s fitness were dispelled on Friday. Dhoni displayed agility behind the stumps, making minimal errors, and his trademark long locks provided a striking backdrop as he ran out Anuj Rawat on the final ball of the RCB innings.
He has opted to lower him down to the No.7 or 8 position in the batting lineup, so it’s possible that he could feature throughout the entire season.
CSK maintain their impressive record against RCB
Mustafizur Rahman set the stage with his array of clever variations, while Ravindra Jadeja and Shivam Dube sealed the deal with their exceptional finishing skills, securing a comfortable six-wicket victory for CSK. CSK, who haven’t lost to RCB at home since 2008, maintained their impressive record.
Mustafizur, delivering his best IPL performance with figures of 4/29 in four overs, played a significant role in restricting RCB to 173 for six on a favorable batting surface. The only positive for the visitors was a 95-run sixth-wicket partnership off 50 balls between Anuj Rawat (48 off 25 balls) and Dinesh Karthik (38 not out off 26 balls).
Jadeja (25 not out off 17 balls) utilized his wealth of experience at a crucial juncture in the run chase, prompting a hesitant Dube (34 off 28 balls) to push for swift doubles and ultimately seal the chase in 18.4 overs. Dube gained confidence alongside Jadeja towards the end, swiftly wrapping up the chase.
