The 2024 Indian Premier League allowed the Australian players to hone their skills ahead of the T20 World Cup 2024 to be played in the West Indies and USA from 2nd June onwards. Most of them have shown brilliant performances for their respective franchises during this season so far.

Kolkata Knight Riders made it into the finals directly with a resounding 8 wicket win over SRH. Apart from these hits, few Australian players looked in poor form which led to their exit from the first round itself.

Here we look at the Performances of Australian Players in IPL 2024:

  1. Travis Head

The explosive left-handed Travis Head was bought by Sunrisers Hyderabad for Rs 6.80 Crore. He has shown tremendous form with the bat smashing the bowlers all over the park in the tournament so far which led to SRH reaching the playoff stage.

Head is currently 3rd in the charts of leading run-getters in the tournament. He has made so far 533 runs from 13 matches (13 innings) with 1 century and 4 half-centuries to his name at a stunning strike rate of 199.62. His best score in the tournament was 102 against Royal Challengers Bengaluru.

The explosive opener Head will look to change the fortunes as he has been dismissed twice on his first ball against Punjab Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad. He would look to provide another brilliant display of batting when SRH would face either RR or RCB in the qualifier 2.

  1. Jake Fraser McGurk

Jake Fraser McGurk had a memorable debut season in IPL 2024. He was named as a replacement for Lungi Ngidi by the Delhi Capitals. Fraser showed his attacking skills in his debut match against Lucknow Super Giants where he made fifty in quick time and helped Delhi Capitals register a comfortable win.

Fraser McGurk did not play the first few matches before putting on an excellent display of batting. He opened the innings for Delhi Capitals and made 330 runs from 9 matches (9 innings) with 4 half-centuries to his name including the best score of 84 against Mumbai Indians. His batting made life tough for the bowlers with a strike rate of 234. 04. Despite his performances, Delhi Capitals could not qualify for the playoff stages.

  1. Mitchell Starc

Mitchell Starc was bought by Kolkata Knight Riders for a whopping price of 24.75 Crore. He did not look in great form during the beginning of the season when the batters smashed them all over the park.

He then showed his skills with a match-winning performance in qualifier 1 against Sunrisers Hyderabad grabbing the wickets of Travis Head, Nitish Kumar Reddy, and Shahbaz Ahmed which put SRH batters under pressure. He ended with figures of 3 for 34 in 4 overs and was named the player of the match.

Starc is currently with 15 wickets from 13 matches (12 innings) at an economy of 11.07 runs per over. His best figures in the tournament were 4 for 33 against Mumbai Indians.

  1. Pat Cummins

Pat Cummins was appointed as the captain of Sunrisers Hyderabad for this season. He was bought for a whopping 20.50 Crore. His performances in the tournament with the ball have been brilliant so far for SRH.

Cummins has grabbed a total of 16 wickets from 14 matches (14 innings) so far at an economy of 9.41 runs per over. His best figures in the tournament has been 3 for 43 against RCB where SRH posted 287 for 3 in 20 overs.

Cummins has shown tremendous skills to put the pressure on the batters with his variations. He would be eager to showcase his skills when SRH faces either RR or RCB in Qualifier 2.

  1. Cameron Green

Cameron Green was traded to Royal Challengers Bengaluru this season. He struggled in the initial matches where RCB lost 7 out of the 8 matches. Green came to his own with some brilliant knocks that helped Faf du Plessis RCB qualify for the playoffs winning 6 successive matches.

Green has played a total of 12 matches (11 innings) in the tournament so far with 228 runs with his best score of 46 against Punjab Kings. He came depending on the match situation and ensure that RCB posted big totals.

With the ball, Green has been decent enough with 9 wickets from 12 matches (12 innings) at an economy of 8.82 runs per over including best figures of 2 for 12 against Delhi Capitals. He would be looking to prove his worth with a match-winning effort against RR in the eliminator today.

  1. Glenn Maxwell

Glenn Maxwell had a horrible season with the bat this season. His performance was not great as he decided to take a break from playing XI. Maxwell made a total of 52 runs from 9 matches (8 innings) with best score of 28 against Kolkata Knight Riders.

His exploits with the ball has been decent enough with 6 wickets from 9 matches (6 innings) at an economy of 8.06 runs per over including best figures of 2 for 23 against Punjab Kings.

Glenn Maxwell

  1. Mitchell Marsh

Mitchell Marsh played just four matches for the Delhi Capitals this season. He scored just 61 runs from 4 matches (4 innings) including the best score of 23 against Punjab Kings in their first match.

Marsh was then ruled out of the tournament due to an injury. He struggled with his bowling with only 1 wicket from 4 matches (3 innings) with an economy of 12.87.

He has been named as the captain of the Australian team for the T20 World Cup 2024 and hopes to be fit in time for the mega event.

  1. David Warner

David Warner was the biggest disappointment for Delhi Capitals this season. He looked impressive in initial matches putting pressure on opponent bowlers. Warner featured in just 8 matches (8 innings) and scored 168 runs with the best score of 52 against Rajasthan Royals.

Warner could not play most matches for Delhi Capitals due to an injury. He played matches as an impact sub and struggled with his batting. Due to his inconsistency, the Delhi Capitals could reach the playoff stage.

  1. Marcus Stoinis

The star all-rounder Marcus Stoinis looked impressive with the bat for Lucknow Super Giants. Stoinis came to the batting crease depending on the situation. He made a total of 388 runs from 14 matches (14 innings) with 1 century and 2 half-centuries to his name.

Stoinis played a key role in LSG’s chase of 211 against CSK in Chepauk. His best score in the tournament was 123 not out which helped LSG chase down the target easily.

  1. Spencer Johnson

Spencer Johnson was bought by Gujarat Titans for Rs 10 Crore. He played only 5 matches in the entire tournament with 4 wickets including 2 for 25 against Mumbai Indians that helped Gujarat Titans win by 6 runs.

Johnson struggled with his bowling going at an economy of 9.43 runs per over. He was not given consistent chances in the playing XI by Gujarat Titans franchise.

  1. Tim David

Tim David had a disappointing performance with the bat for Mumbai Indians. He made just 241 runs from 13 matches (11 innings) including the best score of 45 not out against Sunrisers Hyderabad.

His batting performances coming down lower down the order could not provide the finishing touches. Due to lack of finishing abilities, Mumbai Indians finished last in the points table.

  1. Matthew Wade

Matthew Wade came late to Gujarat Titans camp as Saha opened the innings for Gujarat Titans. He played just 2 matches (1 innings) in the entire season with just 4 runs. Wade featured against Rajasthan Royals and played against Chennai Super Kings.

Gujarat Titans’ batting struggled badly as Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan showed their class. Wade might not be retained by the Gujarat Titans franchise for next season.

  1. Ashton Turner

Ashton Turner eventually got his chance to play for the Lucknow Super Giants. He played just 2 matches in the entire season with only 21 runs including the highest score of 16 off 9 balls against Kolkata Knight Riders.

Lucknow Super Giants finished with 14 points but could not qualify for the playoff stage due to an inferior net run rate. Turner was bought by the LSG franchise for 1 Crore. He has played key roles in helping Perth Scorchers BBL titles.

  1. Jhye Richardson

Jhye Richardson was bought by Delhi Capitals franchise for Rs 1.50 Crore. He played just 1 match in the tournament against Mumbai Indians and gave away 40 runs.

He was not given chances in the playing XI by Delhi Capitals. Jhye had to sit on the bench due to poor performances and was taken to the cleaners by Tim David and Romario Shepherd.

  1. Nathan Ellis

Nathan Ellis was retained by Punjab Kings franchise for this season. He featured in only 1 match this season and grabbed figures of 1 for 24 in 4 overs against Rajasthan Royals.

Ellis was not given chances in the playing XI due to a lack of poor form. Punjab Kings could not qualify for the playoffs again as their bowling failed to pick wickets in the middle overs and control run flow.
