IPL 2024

The Indian Premier League is towards its end as RR defeated RCB by 4 wickets in the eliminator played at Ahmedabad on 22nd May 2024. The Indian team will then leave for the USA and West Indies for the T20 World Cup from 2nd June onwards.

The 15 players who have been included in the squad will look to produce some lovely performances and help India win their second T20 title.

Performance of Indian players in IPL 2024:

  1. Rohit Sharma

Rohit Sharma ended as the leading run for Mumbai Indians. He looked impressive in the first few matches, providing aggressive starts. Rohit made a total of 417 runs from 14 matches (14 innings) with 1 century and 1 half-century to his name. His best score came against 105 not out against Chennai Super Kings which was not enough for MI to win the match.

He ended the IPL season with well made 68 against Lucknow Super Giants at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. Rohit would be looking to provide attacking starts in the World Cup and keep the momentum going for Team India helping them to win the title. He will be looking to showcase his array of strokes making sure that Men in Blue can build or chase down targets easily.

  1. Yashasvi Jaiswal

Yashasvi Jaiswal had a mixed-bag season for Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2024. He played a key role for RR with an important 45 against RCB in the eliminator. Jaiswal scored so far 393 runs from 15 matches (14 innings) with 1 century and 1 half-century to his name. His best score was 104 not out against Mumbai Indians.

Jaiswal is facing a problem as his opening partner Jos Buttler is currently with the England team for the T20I series against Pakistan. He will be looking to continue his good form in qualifier 2 against SRH and hopefully showcase his talent in T20 World Cup 2024.

  1. Virat Kohli

Virat Kohli performed brilliantly in the entire tournament for Royal Challengers Bengaluru. After their heartbreaking exit loss to RR in the eliminator, Kohli is currently the leading run scorer in IPL 2024 with 741 runs from 15 matches (15 innings) with 1 century and 5 half-centuries to his name.

His best score was 113 not out against RR. He performed brilliantly with a higher strike rate of 154.69. His ability to play attacking strokes right helped RCB to qualify for the playoff stage after winning 1 out of 8 matches they played.

Kohli would be hoping for a good performance in the T20 World Cup 2024 and to help Team India win an ICC title since the 2013 Champions Trophy.

  1. Suryakumar Yadav

Suryakumar Yadav missed the first few matches of the season due to an injury. He played a total of 11 matches (11 innings) and scored 345 runs including 1 century and 3 half-centuries to his name at a strike rate of 167.47.

Suryakumar Yadav’s best score in the tournament came against Sunrisers Hyderabad of 102 not out which helped MI register an easy win. He will play a key role in the middle order with an array of strokes and make sure that the Indian team win matches with the ability to play attacking cricket around the wicket.

  1. Rishabh Pant

Rishabh Pant made a grand comeback to IPL 17 after recovering from a horrific car accident. He was appointed as the captain of Delhi Capitals this season. Pant finished as the leading run-getter for DC with 446 runs from 13 matches (13 innings) including 3 half-centuries to his name.

Pant’s highest score was 88 not out against Gujarat Titans. He will be an ideal wicketkeeper option for the first match against Ireland in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

  1. Shivam Dube

Shivam Dube was named in the 15-member squad based on superb performances in the initial phases of IPL 2024. Dube made a total of 396 runs from 14 matches (14 innings) with 3 half-centuries to his name a strike rate of 162.29.

His best score in the tournament came against Mumbai Indians of 66 not out. After his selection in the World Cup squad, Dube could not perform well which did not help Chennai Super Kings to qualify for the playoff stage.

  1. Sanju Samson

Sanju Samson is currently the leading run-getter for Rajasthan Royals. He played a rash stroke against Karn Sharma and was stumped. Samson has been impressive in the tournament so far with 521 runs from 15 matches ( 14 innings) with 5 half-centuries to his name. His best score in the tournament was against Delhi Capitals of 86.

Samson would be looking to showcase his skills with a match-winning performance against SRH in qualifier 2 and help RR reach the finals of IPL 2024. Samson could be given a chance for the Indian team in the upcoming T20 World Cup.

  1. Ravindra Jadeja

Ravindra Jadeja had a mixed-bag season for CSK with the bat. He made 267 runs from 14 matches (11 innings) with best score of 57 not out against Lucknow Super Giants. Jadeja scored just 1 fifty in the entire tournament and looked out of sorts coming up the order.

With the ball, Jadeja grabbed just 8 wickets from 14 matches (14 innings) at an economy of 7.85 runs per over including best figures of 3 for 18 against Kolkata Knight Riders. Jadeja needs to perform well in the T20 World Cup picking wickets in the middle overs and scoring runs quickly.

  1. Axar Patel

Axar Patel looked impressive for Delhi Capitals with both bat and ball this season. He took a total of 11 wickets from 14 matches ( 14 innings) at an economy of 7.65 runs per over including best figures of 2 for 25 against Kolkata Knight Riders.

He performed brilliantly with the bat for Delhi Capitals. Axar made 235 runs from 14 matches (12 innings) including 2 half-centuries to his name including the best score of 66 against Gujarat Titans. Axar could be an ideal choice as a spin bowling option in the playing XI if Ravindra Jadeja does not perform well.

  1. Hardik Pandya

Hardik Pandya had a horrible season for Mumbai Indians with both bat and ball. He made 213 runs from 14 matches (13 innings) including the best score of 46 against Delhi Capitals.

He looked decent enough with the ball, picking 11 wickets from 14 matches (12 innings) with best figures of 3 for 31 against SRH. Pandya went at an economy rate of 10.75 runs per over. Hardik Pandya would play a key role with both bat and ball helping Team India win matches on his own.

  1. Kuldeep Yadav

Kuldeep Yadav was superb with his bowling efforts in the IPL 2024 for Delhi Capitals. He missed three matches due to an injury. The left-arm chainmen looked threatening in middle overs picking wickets and controlling the flow of runs.

Kuldeep took a total of 16 wickets from 11 matches (11 innings) at an economy of 8.65 runs per over including best figures of 4 for 55 against SRH. He will play a major role on USA and West Indies pitches which would be slow.

He will look to create an impact in middle overs not allowing the batters to score runs easily and keep picking wickets that make life easier for the Indian team.

  1. Yuzvendra Chahal

Yuzvendra Chahal achieved the milestone of becoming first bowler in IPL to grab 200 wickets. The leg spinner is currently leading wicket for Rajasthan Royals with 18 wickets from 14 matches (14 innings) at an economy of 9.48 runs per over. He struggled as the batters took charge.

Chahal’s best figures in the tournament were 3 for 11 against Mumbai Indians. He has jumped to number 6th in leading wicket-taker of IPL 2024. Chahal would be looking to deliver the goods when RR face SRH in the qualifier 2 on 24th May 2024.

  1. Jasprit Bumrah

Jasprit Burmah led from the front in the bowling department for Mumbai Indians. He grabbed a total of 20 wickets from 13 matches (13 innings) at an economy of 6.48 runs per over. He was lethal at every stage of the match which created pressure on the opponent batters.

  1. Mohammed Siraj

Siraj picked 15 wickets including 2 for 33 in 4 overs against RCB in eliminator. He went for an economy rate of 9.18 runs per over including best figures of 3 for 43 against Punjab Kings. Siraj would be key for India’s chances to bowl well in the first six overs, picking wickets in the first six overs along with Bumrah.

  1. Arshdeep Singh

Arshdeep Singh finished as Punjab Kings’ leading wicket-taker in IPL 2024. He ended the tournament with 19 wickets from 14 matches (14 innings). Despite going for 10.03 runs per over, the left-arm pace bowler registered best figures of 4 for 29 against Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Arshdeep Singh will play an important role in the bowling department if selected for the XI. He needs to improve on his death bowling which will be key not to leak more runs. The Indian team included 4 reserves including Shubman Gill, Khaleel Ahmed, Avesh Khan, and Rinku Singh.
