Team India cricketer Sarfaraz Khan has come to the limelight after his brilliant test debut in the ongoing series against England. According to reports, he is also likely to be rewarded with an Indian Premier League contract for the upcoming 2024 season, that kicks off in March this year.
According to a report in Anandabazar Patrika, a Bengali daily, KKR’s newly-appointed mentor Gautam Gambhir has been advocating to sign Sarfaraz Khan. Meanwhile, the likes of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have also expressed interest in signing him. In 50 IPL matches, he has scored 585 runs at an average of 22.50, and a strike rate of 130.58, with a fifty to his name. Notably, Sarfaraz Khan was released by the Delhi Capitals before the 2024 Indian Premier League auctions. He played only four matches in the season for them, managing 53 runs.
The Mumbai cricketer went unsold at the 2024 IPL auctions as no franchise showed interest in signing him. Interestingly, according to rumours the Kolkata Knight Riders, Chennai Super Kings and the Royal Challengers Bangalore are interested in signing the batter. However, according to the rules, a franchise can only sign an unsold player if an existing player gets injured or withdraws from the tournament. Meanwhile, the franchises also cannot use the trading window for Sarfaraz, as the batter isn’t part of any of the franchises.
Sarfaraz Khan finally makes Team India debut
Mumbai batter Sarfaraz Khan’s long wait came to an end as he received his test debut cap from Anil Kumble before the start of the third test at Rajkot against England. His father, Naushad and wife were present during the test match. Sarfaraz impressed many on his debut as he took on the England bowlers. He slammed half-centuries in both the innings, scoring 62 and 68 runs. India won the test by 434 runs, taking a 2-1 lead in the series.
