Indian star batter Prithvi Shaw had a disappointing outing in IPL 2023. He made just 106 runs from 8 matches (8 innings) which led Delhi Capitals to finishing 9th in the points table behind Sunrisers Hyderabad.
His performance dipped in the 2022 edition also and could not score big runs as Delhi Capital failed to qualify for the playoff stage that season. Since making his debut for Delhi Capitals in 2018, he has been the backbone of the batting lineup providing explosive starts that made life tough for opponent bowlers.
During the 2021 edition of IPL, Shaw scored 479 runs from 15 matches and helped Delhi Capitals reach the playoff stage. During the last two seasons, Shaw has been opening with veteran Australian player David Warner.
Delhi Capitals named Pant as the captain for this season. He had a disappointing outing in IPL 2023 with 106 runs from 8 matches and was dropped out of the playing XI. His underwhelming performance did not help the Delhi Capitals’ cause.
Shaw has been retained by Delhi Capitals for this season also.
“Ponting will first address Prithvi Shaw’s form. He is not living up to his expectations now. He has got to change the way he goes about his business, he has got to gain confidence,” Hogg said. “Ponting will be working on that (Shaw’s form) with his strategy for the first six overs. If he can turn things around and compliment Warner, then the middle order can come into play.”
Delhi Capitals would begin their journey against Punjab Kings at Mullanpur on 23rd March 2024.
Prithvi Shaw’s leading India U19 team to victory
Prithvi Shaw led India Under 19 to winning the World Cup in the 2018 edition played in New Zealand. Under his captaincy, India’s U19 team defeated Australia to win the title. He was included in the Delhi Daredevils squad in the 2018 edition.
Shaw had an impressive outing with 245 runs in his first season. His form has not been the same and would look to showcase his talent during IPL 2024.
