The IPL administration confirmed Pant’s infraction in a public statement, specifying the circumstances under which the fine was levied. The fine of Rs 12 lakhs was attributed directly to Pant’s leadership as the captain of Delhi Capitals, given the team’s failure to maintain the required over-rate during the match against Chennai Super Kings. This occurrence marked the first instance of such a violation by Pant’s team in the ongoing IPL season, prompting the enforcement of the prescribed penalty.
