Rajasthan Royals registered their 2nd successive win of IPL 2024 with a 12-run victory over Delhi Capitals at Sawai Man Singh Stadium, Jaipur on 28th March 2024.
Delhi Capitals captain Pant won the toss and decided to field first. Rajasthan Royals struggled initially losing 2 early wickets to Jaiswal and captain Sanju Samson. Riyan Parag came to the crease at number 4 and steadied the ship.
Riyan then took charge with some lusty blows that put pressure back on Delhi Capitals’ bowling. He raced away to his fifty off 34 balls and kept the momentum going for Rajasthan Royals. It was a superb batting display by Parag who smashed Anrich Nortje for 25 runs in the last over that helped Rajasthan Royals post 185 for 5 in 20 overs. Parag remained not out on his best IPL score of 84 not out off 45 deliveries with 7 fours and 6 sixes.
“This number suits him more than anything. It gives him time, as he is used to batting at this number. He bats at No.4 for Assam and gets lots of opportunities and has time to build his innings. So, I feel Rajasthan has found the right spot,” Jaffer told ESPNcricinfo.
Avesh Khan held onto his nerves in the final over giving away just 4 runs that helped Rajasthan Royals win the match by 12 runs. For his match-winning efforts, Riyan Parag was named the player of the match award.
Riyan Parag Made An Impact With His Performances This Season
Riyan Parag came into this IPL with lovely performances in the 2023-24 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy for Assam. He scored 510 runs from 10 matches (10 innings) with 7 half-centuries to his name with best score of 76 not out at a strike rate of 182.79.
Parag was retained by the Rajasthan Royals franchise before the IPL auction. He has shown tremendous faith with a superb knock of 43 in quick time against Lucknow Super Giants at Sawai Man Singh Stadium, Jaipur on 24th March changed the momentum in favour of Rajasthan Royals helping them to lay a strong foundation for a big total.
