Gujarat Titans named Tamil Nadu pace bowler Sandeep Warrier for the upcoming Indian Premier League 2024 beginning from 22nd March onwards. Warrier has been named replacement for Mohammed Shami who has been ruled out of the tournament due to an injury that he suffered during the 2023 World Cup. Warrier went unsold during the IPL  auction that took place on 19th December 2023.

He has been bought by the Gujarat Titans franchise for a base price of Rs 50 Lakhs. Sandeep Warrier was bought by the KKR franchise in the 2019 edition of IPL. He played three matches in that season and grabbed a total of 2 wickets. He then only 1 match in the 2020 edition and went for 34 runs at an economy of 11.33.

Shami underwent surgery on his knee and is recovering well for the upcoming matches to be played in September. Shami played a key role in being the leading wicket-taker with 28 wickets and helped Gujarat Titans reach the finals of IPL 2023.

Warrier played his debut IPL match against Mumbai Indians on 28th April 2019. During this match, the pace bowler gave away 29 runs in his 4 overs without any wickets. His final IPL match was against Delhi Capitals at Sharjah Cricket Stadium, Sharjah on 28th September 2021. He ended with figures of 0 for 15 in his 2 overs. Kolkata Knight Riders won the match by 3 wickets.

Gujarat Titans would be hoping that Sandeep Warrier would fill his boots and impress with his bowling. Titans will start their tournament against Mumbai Indians at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad on 24th March.

Gujarat Titans bought Umesh Yadav for Rs 5.80 Crore, Shahrukh Khan for 7.40 Crore, Azamatullah Omarzai for 50 Lakhs, Spencer Johnson for 10 Crore, Sushant Mishra for 2.20 Crore, Karthik Tyagi for 60 Lakhs and Manav Suthar for 20 Lakhs.

Superb 2023-24 Ranji Trophy Season For Sandeep Warrier

Sandeep Warrier had a dream 2023-24 Ranji Trophy season for Tamil Nadu. He bowled with great venom and troubled the batters with deliveries. Tamil Nadu reached the semi-finals before losing to eventual winners Mumbai by an innings and 70 runs.

Warrier took a total of 24 wickets in the 9 matches (15 innings) he bowled in the tournament. His bowling consisted of discipline lines and lengths with best figures of 4 for 57 at an economy of 3.05.
