Sunrisers Hyderabad bought Sri Lankan leg spinner Hasranga for a base price of 1.5 Crore during the IPL auction that took place on 19th December 2023.
He will not play in IPL 2024 due to an injury. Sri Lankan Cricket wrote to BCCI about Hasranga’s unavailability for the tournament. He has written that the 26-year-old has to undergo rehabilitation and rest to heal the ankle injury and will not feature this season due to the same injury.
“I believe so,” the player’s manager, Shyam, told Cricbuzz. “Sri Lanka Cricket has written to the BCCI informing them about his unavailability. He went to Dubai for medical advice and stayed there for three days. Given the current situation, the expert’s advice is that he should rest rather than participate in the IPL this season.”
It is a major blow for SRH as he has not missed the service this season so far. They played a total of 4 matches with 2 wins and 2 losses. Pat Cummins and Co won against 5 defending champions Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings.
Sunrisers Hyderabad is lacking a quality spinner as they have Mayank Markande and Shahbaz Ahmed. They need their batters to play attacking cricket and put pressure on the opponent bowlers to give them a chance.
SRH posted the highest total in IPL history with 277 for 3 against Mumbai Indians at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad. SRH would be looking to continue their winning momentum as they play Punjab Kings on 9th April 2024.
Hasranga performance in IPL 2022
The Sri Lankan spinner decided to come out of retirement to play the 2 Test matches against Bangladesh but could not feature due to the same injury. He was bought by RCB in the IPL 2022 auction.
Hasranga was brilliant with his bowling 26 wickets that helped RCB qualify for the playoff stage. He did not play many matches in last year’s edition.
Before the IPL 2024 auction, RCB decided to release him. Pat Cummins was appointed as captain of the SRH side, and the Lankan spinner was bought for a base price of 1.5 Crore.
