Mumbai Indians could be dealt a major blow as Suryakumar Yadav will miss the first two games of the Indian Premier League 2024. He is currently rehabilitating at National Cricket Academy, Bengaluru after recovering from an injury he suffered during the 3rd T20I match at Johannesburg last year.

Suryakumar Yadav is doing strength and condition training but has not uploaded any batting training videos. The Indian Premier League 2024 will begin on 22nd March and the schedule for the first half of the IPL will go until 7th April.

Mumbai Indians had a brilliant outing in IPL 2023 reaching the qualifier 2 and losing to Gujarat Giants despite having weak bowling. Under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma, MI made it into the playoff stage. They won against Lucknow Super Giants in the eliminator before losing to Gujarat Titans in the qualifier 2.

“Surya’s rehabilitation is on track and he will certainly ‘Return to Play’ in the IPL itself. However, it is still not clear whether the NCA’s Sports Science and Medical Team will give clearance to play in the first two away games against Gujarat Titans and Sunrisers Hyderabad (March 27),” a BCCI source told PTI on condition of anonymity.

Suryakumar Yadav has shown brilliant performances for Team India in the shorter format. He is one of few batters to score four centuries. It has been a sensational batting effort by Surya. India’s chances of doing well in the T20 World Cup to be played in the United States of America and West Indies would depend upon how Suryakumar Yadav performs.

Suryakumar Yadav’s performance in IPL 2023

Suryakumar Yadav showed his variety of shots in the Indian Premier League 2023. He had a stunning tournament with 605 runs from 16 matches (16 innings) including 1 century and 5 half-centuries including the best score of 103 not out against Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Mumbai Indians named Hardik Pandya as the captain for IPL 2024. MI would look to start the season on a positive note as they play their opening match against Gujarat Titans on 24th March and then face SRH on 27th March.
