The atmosphere was electric during the RCB vs CSK IPL 2024 match in Bengaluru on Saturday. This high-profile, star-studded clash was also a knockout game determining the final playoff spot in the IPL 2024. Naturally, both teams were highly charged, particularly RCB stars like Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis.

Not only did Kohli and Du Plessis give RCB a strong start with the bat, but they were also dynamic on the field. Every catch was celebrated enthusiastically, and every CSK wicket was wildly cheered. During the CSK innings, Kohli and Du Plessis had a lively discussion with the umpires over a no-ball bowled by Lockie Ferguson to Rachin Ravindra.

They seemed to argue that the slippery ball was to blame, a point they had raised a couple of overs earlier. Kohli had an extended conversation with the umpires, which led to criticism on the internet for allegedly putting undue pressure on them.

On Saturday, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) tied with Mumbai Indians (MI) for the most 200-plus run totals in a single Indian Premier League (IPL) season.

RCB achieved a milestone in their match against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in Bengaluru

In this game, RCB scored 218/5 in 20 overs, marking their sixth 200-plus total of the season. This performance matches Mumbai Indians’ six 200-plus totals in 2023 and Kolkata Knight Riders’ six in IPL 2024. RCB also became the first team to hit 150 sixes in a single edition of a T20 tournament. With 16 more sixes, RCB surpassed Sunrisers Hyderabad’s (SRH) previous record of 146 sixes.

In the match, CSK won the toss and chose to bat first. RCB posted a formidable 218/5, with captain Faf du Plessis scoring 54 off 39 balls (including three fours and three sixes) and Virat Kohli adding 47 off 29 balls (with three fours and four sixes), sharing a 78-run partnership.

This set a strong foundation for Rajat Patidar (41 off 23 balls, with two fours and four sixes) and Cameron Green (38* off 17 balls, with three fours and three sixes) to build a 71-run stand for the third wicket.

Cameos from Dinesh Karthik (14 off six balls, with a four and a six) and Glenn Maxwell (16 off five balls, with two fours and a six) helped RCB surpass the 200-run mark. Ultimately, RCB secured a 27-run victory to qualify for the playoffs.
