IPL 2024: [WATCH] Jasprit Bumrah Bowls A Fiery Yorker To Dismiss Wriddhiman Saha In The GT vs MI Match

Mumbai Indians (MI) fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah once again demonstrated his value to the franchise. He made an impact in his very first over during his IPL comeback against the Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Sunday, March 24.

Bumrah delivered a blistering yorker that proved too challenging for Wriddhiman Saha, who had scored 19 runs off 15 balls. The experienced wicketkeeper reacted slightly late, resulting in his stumps being disturbed.

It was reminiscent of the type of delivery that Bumrah became known for when he first emerged onto the scene.

There might be considerable discussion about whether Jasprit Bumrah should have been the opening bowler for MI. Instead, Mumbai’s new captain, Hardik Pandya, assumed the role but gave away 20 runs in his initial two overs.

The Titans got off to a flying start, reminiscent of the performances consistently provided by Shubman Gill and Wriddhiman Saha in the past two seasons. Mumbai was in urgent need of a breakthrough, and Hardik Pandya turned to Jasprit Bumrah to deliver.

However, Bumrah was sparingly used, bowling just one over in the powerplay, as the skipper quickly opted for his spinners. This strategic move proved effective as the spinners managed to control the run rate.

In an attempt to break free from the pressure, Gill attempted a big shot off Piyush Chawla but ended up hitting it straight to Rohit Sharma at long-on. Gill scored 31 runs off 22 deliveries.

As the ball seems to grip the surface, Mumbai has opted to bring in more spin bowlers at the moment. However, it’s worth noting that Sai Sudharsan is proficient in playing spin, and Azmatullah Omarzai has the capability to unleash big shots when required.

GT requires a substantial partnership to establish a foundation for the latter part of their innings on what appears to be a promising pitch overall.
